Dr. Brown is genuinely a very wonderful doctor, I have met many who are not equipped with the soft skills to be a human being in that role, and she always makes me feel heard and understood. Everyone I have worked with at Oaklawn Albion has been great. [NAME] is also wonderful at her role.

The time was kinda fast. My provider didn't really give me answers to my questions but she does any other time. She's a good provider though.

This visit was for a follow up after IUD insertion. I did express concerns about the extreme pain I experienced during insertion, and did not feel it was taken seriously. For reference, if I'd been asked to rate the pain, it easily was a 9. I nearly passed out during the procedure, then sat in my car crying outside of the office due to extreme cramping. It took over 20 minutes for the cramping to let up enough that I felt I could drive home. At the insertion visit, I asked about pre-treatment with pain medications, specifically, lidocaine which is now guideline recommended. I was told that very few providers in this area utilize lidocaine or other pain management options. I do feel that the pain of this procedure is wildly underestimated and pain expectations are not set well with patients. Specifically, I was told by the nurse and the physician that they had fair painless IUD insertions, so "it shouldn't be that bad." After expressing additional concern about the pain at this visit, I was told "it's hard to set pain expectations because it varies so much." While I understand pain varies, setting a more realistic expectation based on women's individual health history is crucial, ESPECIALLY for women who have not had children. Case reports consistently show this procedure is extremely painful and pain management is virtually nonexistent - hence the updated guideline recommendations. Women who have had children typically report a less painful experience given their cervix has been dilated in the past. I will not return to this office for follow-up and plan to go elsewhere for the removal in several years. I hope by then, Oaklawn will have caught up with current pain management strategies for women's health. FYI - I am a pharmacist, so healthcare is familiar territory. I hope this comment will be taken into consideration when providing care to future patients.

I was told I would be able to pick up a prescription that evening (Friday), but it had not been called in to the pharmacy in time. When I called the office, it was closed but I got the after hours on-call line, where I had to wait for over ten minutes to talk to someone, and then he dismissed my concerns and told me I would have to wait until Monday, since it was a prescription. (I had low hemoglobin & Dr. Brown wanted me to get started on iron right away.)On the other hand, Dr. Brown obviously checks her messages over the weekend & she read mine and called my prescription in herself. So I am happy with her. Not sure who dropped the ball in the office, though.
